Mt. Rushmore/The Needles/Devil's Tower - page 2

                                                                                                                                                        

On Fall Break (+ 5 days) of 2012, I went with my Uncle Bob to do some bucket list items... Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Devil's Tower, and Yellowstone... here is some pictures telling the story...

Bob reading the sign for one of his Earth Cache reports... Both the Badlands and Needles are relatively new parks... both in the70's. Need this for an Earth Cache as I got hooked on GeoCaching on the trip...

On the way to Wyoming to Devils Tower we saw Sitting Bull Monument being worked on... After a couple of hours drive, we finally see our last destination of the day... Devil's Tower. The sign...

You may remember this from the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" When we got there we had some more wildlife right at the edge of the trail.

The tower is known as Great Bear Mountain by the local tribes and is considered religious ground. Members leave prayer cloth all around the monument.

We saw 5 climbers trying to accend the tower. These two were in tandem.. There they are together...

Now we are zooomed out a bit... can you still see them? And now what it looked like from the trail around the tower... they are just specks on the mountain. Sign...

There is a trail around the tower... about a mile.... But you can get to see all sides of it. On the back side were 3 more climbers.. 1 solo and 2 others (this one taking a picture of his partner coming up).

Smile ... your partner is already there! This one was solo climbing... was going pretty fast too!! On the left of the guy is the original wood ladder they used to climb up long ago!
