Saturday - March 15, 2014 - The Day We Finally Got Back to Carlsbad!

Participants: Dale Amlee, Steve Beleu, Duane Del Vecchio, Carol & Dale Town, & Jon & Kelly Woltz
Trip Report by: Duane

With Cave Resources playing Merry-Go-Round with staff (and not able to keep one there for an extended period of time), we haven't been able to get a trip back down to Carlsbad Caverns for our annual (or not so annual) cave restoration trip.

The following is a visual trip report - the trip report submitted to Carlsbad Caverns Cave Resource office will also be included with this report.

Some of this stuff is just majestic in its own right... whereas we sometimes have popcorn on our celings... these are really decorated... Still growing...

They are replacing all of the wiring in the cave... there litterly is tons of wire on these 6 foot high spools.... I'm holding one of the cables...they will eventually replace all ights with LED lighting. On our way to Left Hand Tunnel

Protected by gate and lock... A scientific anemometer... it doesn't turn but electric parts still can measure wind flow. Another one up near the ceiling...neat new thought her... popcorn stops near the ceiling as the warmer air is flowing and robbing the moisture away... thus it stops ... what the instrument is testing...

Said there was a decayed bat there... I couldn't see it... Big passage... easy trail... This is probably going to be our next project... replace all the flagging on the trails (or as much as can be done in one day). It's in poor shape in Lower Cave and not too good here.

This is one of the paid tours the park service offers so it is walked on a lot by visitors. Shawn pointed out some intersting things along the trail. the blind man with a booger dripping out of his nose...

Shawn had to place a measuring device at the end of the trail.. hence his trip down here... he was good enough to take us with him! :) A selfie I'll put on facebook! <grin>

End of the line... unless you want to scale this side... hold on to a barely useable ledge and then drop down on the other side... oh... and there is a 100 ft pit under you at this time....
