First Saturday Class

                                                                                                             

We started our Saturday classes with the option of attending one or the other for our first class. In this class Mr. D taught about Bats, Venomous Snakes of Oklahoma, and Caving Safety.

This is how large a bat would be if it were a 5th grader. The body in the middle (1 length) by 2 lengths for each wing. We had 10 students show up for the first Saturday training. Mr. D teaching about parts of a bat wing.

Everyone paid really good attention to the class. Then real bats were passed out so everyone could see what they looked like. Questions were asked and everyone's bat knowledge increased.

Then came the 'practice' caves... go under the chairs for a belly crawl. She survived!! A helmet wouldn't fit under this set of chairs...

The other set of chairs had to be done with a helmet on the head. Some were having too good a time with the first part! The helmets didn't fit too good but it gave everyone a feel for how hard it will be to see over the lip of the helmet...

but you have to wear them to protect your head. You'll hear a lot of "Thump" of helmet hitting ceiling.... The next Saturday was the same set of activities as the other day.... but the five that attended this class had other activities that time so they came to this one instead.

Both sets of students had to take a Pre-Test... It wasn't graded but was to show to the grant people that the students learned something during the time spent on the trip. Most scores were in the teens with a 24% as the high score...

but the post test given the last day of camp had many 100%'s with the low at an 80%!! Great scores!! But it didn't releave the pressure of that first test! <grin> Even mom and dads that came with thier kiddos took it...
