Selman Bat Watch 2019

This is my 22nd year of working as a volunteer with the Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife with the Selman Bat Watch. It has been going for the last 23 years. Always a good time educating people on bats. Signups are on the days after Memorial Day and though drawings 800 people get to attend. This year over 1,600 applied for a chance to view the bats. We meet at Alabaster Caverns State Park and bus the group to the site. While waiting for the flight, we usually do a nature trail of the area. This year the bats always cut our trail a bit short as they came out early.

They also made that incredible sound that only a thousand bats overhead can make with all of the flapping of wings! It is so good a show that nobody talks as everyone enjoys the flight A 20 sec. video of the flight
