Gen Con's 50th Game Fair

August 26, 2017 - Indiapolis, IN - Gen Con 50
It has been about a decade and a half since my friend Barry and I attended Gen Con. We used to go when it was in Wisconson but stopped due to my school schedule as they moved to Indy and started later in the month of August when school already started. Barry called and said it was the 50th and we should go again! We made quick plans and got games scheduled and were on our way. His wife drove and we had the leasure of taking it easy on the way up and back. She doesn't play but visited friends in the area. It is a four day affair (Thurs to Sunday). We were there Wed though Sat. On the way home we stopped off in Branson for the night and looked over the town the next day. Got to see the solar eclipse with about 80% totality. Great trip!

My Buddy Barry and I being dropped off at our first day at Gen Con 50! Whoo hooo! This convention center was HUGE!! The map has no scale but the length was at least 3 blocks! They had a mini museum with the agenda for Gen Con 2... wow!

The Mascots for Mayfair Games - they have a great 2 minute video series on Mayfair Games. Lots of Photo Shoot locations for the public like this. This year the expected crowd for Saturday was 75,000 people so Gen Con rented the Colts Stadium for gaming.

The area was used for Game Base 7, Mayfair, Kids games, and open gaming. Games we played... Biotix... thought it would be stupid... ended up buying it and have played it over 15 times here in Ft. Worth with our game group. I would call this the suprise game... Booty... I really liked it and Barry and I took 1st and 2nd from a group who play with the game designer who made the game.

We have played this game every time we went to a Gen Con (or even Origins in Columbus).Conquest of the Star Lords... always ready for release but never is released... sigh... Finally got to play the full rules set of Formula D... own it but learned all of it here. A sample game by Smirk and Dagger... went to buy Biotix and sat down and played this one. Barry really liked it... me...meh....

I think this game might have been really good but one guy was trying to run 3 games and we all struggled with each level of play making it so so... A goofy and easy game to play to be the best manager for a redneck trailer park. Bought it and have played it with the game group. One of the neat parts of any large gaming convention is seeing the large scale models that are made for gaming.

I don't know if there is a competation or not but there are always very nice creations. Some guys can just make stuff... wish I couuld do that!! Some of the war games are large scale with little tiny minatures so that you move literly an inch or two a time (using rulers). Some of these games take up to 6 hours.

but you can defintely see the scale and believe you are in the battle in the French Countryside. Always wanted a full set of Dungeon like pieces like this... maybe after Ed McMahon or the Texas Lotto or Publishers Clearing House gives me a mill!!
